“It is a job that we will tell our grandchildren about”

Mykolas Karčiauskas, the Titas Lukšas and project manager of Alkesta, talks about the reconstruction of the penultimate section of the Via Baltica and the significant contribution of the people of Alkesta – Alkesta – to this record-breaking project.

In total, more than two hundred employees of Alkesta worked on the reconstruction of the penultimate, longest and most technically difficult section of Via Baltica. Among them were mainly road workers, bridge builders and mechanizers of various construction machinery.

“The reconstruction of this section of the Via Baltica brought together the entire team – from workers to mechanizers and managers. It is only thanks to this special focus that we have implemented such a record-breaking project not only qualitatively, but also on time,” says our manager T. Lukšas.

Mykolas Karčiauskas, the project manager who coordinated the works of Via Baltica, adds that the residents of Alytus worked mainly on the sections of the motorway from 56.83 km to 61 km and from 69 km to 72.5 km.  According to Mykolas, Alkesta employees contributed to the construction of about 7.5 km of the motorway section, built about 25 km of connecting roads, 7 roundabouts, one tunnel passage and one viaduct.

“We worked hard and hard, but we all felt the sense of why we were doing it – it was a special project, one of those that happens only once in a lifetime. All employees understood that this is very important, that it is a job that we will tell our grandchildren about, so we need to concentrate and do it,” adds M. Karčiauskas.
