Alkesta to Build a Bridge over the Šešupė River in Marijampolė

A construction contract was officially signed in Marijampolė for one of the region’s largest and most anticipated infrastructure projects in recent years – the construction of a bridge over the Šešupė River, as well as the development of new streets and roundabouts.

A Project That Will Change the Face of the City

The new bridge over the Šešupė River will be 171 metres long. Along with the bridge, a new Stūriškiai Street will be built, Vokiečių Street will be extended, and improvement works will be carried out on Tarpučiai and Aušros streets. To ensure smooth and safe traffic, two new roundabouts will be installed: one at the intersection of Tarpučiai and Stūriškiai streets, and another as part of the reconstruction of the Aušros, Vytauto and P. Armino street intersection.

This will create a completely new transport connection, but its significance for the city will go far beyond more convenient mobility. The project will open up new areas for urban development, residential neighbourhoods and business investment. Three investment land plots are planned, with electricity, water supply, wastewater networks and other necessary infrastructure to be installed up to them.

Commenting on this exceptional project, Titas Lukšas, CEO of UAB Alkesta, emphasised its scale and importance to the community:

“This is more than an infrastructure project. It is a long-term investment in the city’s growth, smoother mobility, greater safety and sustainable value for the community and businesses. Projects like this shape not only the appearance of cities – they shape people’s everyday lives and future opportunities.”

Alkesta will begin the first works already this year: archaeological surveys will be carried out, a detailed work schedule will be prepared, and preparations will begin for the active construction phase. Alkesta plans to complete all scheduled works in 2028.

The total value of the project exceeds EUR 23.1 million, of which more than EUR 19.4 million comes from European Union funds, while around EUR 3.7 million is allocated from the Marijampolė Municipality budget.
